What is an easy and affordable way to soundproof a bedroom?

I live in a house where the living area and bedrooms are all on the same floor. To make matters worse it is all hardwood floor so sound travels far. I was wondering if there was an easy and affordable way to muffle the sound from the living area so that I can get some peace and quiet in my bedroom.

  1. egg cartons
  2. that black foam with the triangular points sticking out. my dad uses it at work in his test boxes, it absorbs all sounds. just line walls or the insides of the walls with it, and the sound will be absorbed. and the longer/bigger the triangles, the more sound it will absorb.
  3. cover the walls with rolls of toilet paper. It may sound weird, but it works.
  4. Any kind of fabric or foam cushion is going to dampen sound waves. also throw rugs on the floors will help too. If you don't want to have your living room look like a sound stage- the suggestion to use sound damping foam- try hanging tapestries or other fabrics on the walls.
